Hello, my name is Chris Rawlings, and I’m the owner, designer, and founder behind Corset Story. Since founding the brand in 2009, I’ve been dedicated to creating high-quality, innovative corsets that blend timeless elegance with modern functionality. I take care of everything from product design to customer care and strategy, ensuring that every detail reflects our values of quality, accessibility, and creativity.

Corset Story was born out of a simple yet transformative idea: to make corsets accessible to everyone. Back in 2009, corsets were still considered an elite and niche garment, often reserved for burlesque, cosplay, or historical reenactment communities. I saw a gap in the market and an opportunity to bring corsetry to a wider audience through the advent of eCommerce. Of course, this approach wasn’t without controversy, as the existing corset communities weren’t entirely thrilled. But my vision has always been to celebrate corsetry as a versatile and empowering garment for all.

Our Team & Tailors

Corset Story is a small but mighty team. Here in the UK, we’re a team of just three, while our highly skilled team of 50 tailors in Delhi brings centuries of combined experience to every corset we make. In fact, our tailors’ collective expertise spans nearly 1000 years, reflecting their deep understanding of the craft.

Since launching, we’ve sold over 1.5 million corsets worldwide, sharing this iconic garment with customers across the globe. Our factory in Delhi has been a cornerstone of our success, built on a foundation of trust, shared ambition, and investment in people. Many of our tailors have been with us since the beginning, creating corsets with precision, artistry, and care.

The History & Timelessness of Corsets

Corsets are one of the most uniquely feminine and fascinating garments in fashion history. While they’ve existed for thousands of years, they became a true wardrobe staple about 500 years ago when the Medicis in Italy popularized them in royal courts. Today, corsets are not just a relic of history—they’re a versatile, iconic piece associated with alternative fashion, high-end couture, and self-expression.

And let’s not forget: corsets aren’t just for women! Men and non-binary individuals also embrace corsetry for fashion, function, and individuality.

Innovation & Challenges

When I started Corset Story, I wanted to solve one of the biggest pain points of traditional corsets: their difficulty to disguise beneath clothing. That’s where the idea of integrating corsetry into everyday garments was born. By creating corset tops, dresses, and shirts, we were able to offer customers chic, wearable designs with a built-in corseted waist. This innovation resonated particularly well with younger audiences and felt like the perfect niche to explore.

Then along came Bridgerton. At first, it was amazing for Corset Story, as the show reignited a passion for corsetry in mainstream fashion. Unfortunately, it also attracted the high street giants, who flooded the market with corset-inspired clothing—but without the waist reduction, craftsmanship, or quality that true corsetry offers.

High-street brands delivered what the mass market wanted: choice and low prices. It was a challenge for us, as they introduced thousands of garments under their "corset" categories. This forced me to rethink my business strategy to ensure Corset Story remained unique and true to its roots.

Our Future

In 2023, Corset Story pivoted to focus on what we do best: creating the highest-quality corsets at the best possible prices. We’ve reduced overheads, redefined our approach, and embraced innovation to offer:
